The Midsouth Black Film Festival is an annual film festival in Memphis, TN celebrating and highlighting black excellence in film in the surrounding regions. Their first inaugural festival was in February 2020, just before the outbreak of the coronavirus in the Memphis area.

In this case study, we will show you how we launched the festival with less than six months until the actual date. This client will always be our favorite brand development project.

Step 1

I received a FB friend request from Mr. Williams. Six months later I received a DM about working together on a project. We had several phone calls to discuss plans, visions, & dreams for the first-ever Midsouth Black Film Festival, birthed out of the parent brand, Global Black Film Consortium. During our calls, we took notes about the mission statement, the audience, the purpose to help us formulate a plan of action. 

Step 2

We began developing the websites for both Global Black Film Consortium and the Midsouth Black Film Festival. The domains were purchased and then the layouts formed that would hold the mission statement, purpose, team members, locations, dates, and details for the upcoming festival to launch GBFC into the world. Graphics were being created, flyers, logos, & other needed marketing materials. Email marketing also became a great tool in this stage.

Step 3

At this stage, there was an abroad team and Memphis team now on board to help finalize locations, details, and pricing. Social Media pages were created to began marketing what was to come & how potential filmmakers in the area could submit their films for screening at the festival. Without films, there wouldn't be a festival, so we contacted warm market leads about submitting their films to our inaugural festival. 

Step 4

The final or semi-final stage of the brand development process consisted of mass promotion on social media outlets, warm & cold markets, setting up an engaging posting schedule, FB event for increased visibility. People were joining the email list every day, the website SEO was up 600%, tickets were on sale & were starting to get purchased, & media outlets were buzzing. This was a great effort put in by the entire team.
